This was a challenging piece and really rewarding. David and I went to Kauai for a vacation this year. What a beautiful place, I just fell in love with it all. As I was going through our photos I felt inspired to do a series of Kauai paintings.

This piece has so much meaning for me. It makes me happy because I pushed myself to go darker and darker. Those palm fronds are dark and they go to light but you see the riverbank and flowers, like peeking through venetian blinds. Yep – I saw that and felt it and liked it. As if peeking you are peeking from a tree house that has venetian blinds across the water.

It pushed me to keep going darker and darker, (it is Steve Curl at Pacific Art League) and so I did. It also suggested flowers in the meadow.
