Artist of the Spirit

I’m in an online art class with Tam of  Willowing.org, called LifeBook2019. It started on the first and you can still register. I had so much hesitation to commit to this year long class with several different art teachers, teaching method and technique. So glad that I did!

Purple has been my color for the past several years – Today I thought YELLOW would be my color for 2019.

I tore bits of pages from a very much-loved spiritual book and glued the bits in. They were selected for the positive statements or writings. Most of the bits of pages have been covered by my heavy-handed lack of experience in layering with new materials.

DARING I thought would be my word for 2019 as I pushed through my comfort zone and experimented with new material and technique!

We now have a COLOR and WORD for the year. As well as a supporting cast of words and colors.

2019 – Yellow, Daring, risk, curious, passion

Animal totems from earlier works are Bear, Owl, Butterfly/Dragonfly. They were not on my train of thought for this piece sadly and were not included. I trust they will be included in future pieces.

As I painted, and applied layers much of my thoughts and awareness was about family.

2018 was a bittersweet road I do not want to revisit. My Son invited us to spend Christmas with them. The two-month wait was an eternity.

Thinking of my time spent with our Son and his family while working on the layers of this piece shifted my word and color for this piece – from Yellow to RED – from Daring to Loving. It has also shifted my world. Everything is as it should be.

2019 – Red, Loving, passionate, kindness

These words are in the painting as well as the formerly chosen words.

My heart has been heavy for years, recently it became so heavy that I left it behind.

My heart is now filled with a happiness and joy that lifts me.

Weaving the daring of the painting with the love of family reminded me of this beautiful writing.
