3-D Beastly Beauty

 

 

Here is the entire 3-D process – If you would care to create or assemble one of your own.  This one is done in watercolor on 300 lb paper.

 

Selecting a subject that would read well as a three dimensional piece seemed a bit difficult at the time, wanting two pieces that were opposites of one another yet the same. Deciding on two self-portraits, one happy and one sad.

 

Taking a slue of selfies before showering. Reviving recent painful memories thinking the expression captured was one of sadness.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Then after the shower – dressing as if going to dinner and feeling deeply grateful for my life today, taking more selfies this time of a happy me. She looks more sassy then happy.

 

 

Once the sad painting was finished she looked more like a beast, a mean old hag instead of someone who is sad. So then the title changed to “Beauty and the Beast.”

 

It became a bit exiting upon realization that the two images chosen were shot in very similar lighting and positions. Would it be at all possible that the two images could morph into one?

 

 

The pieces were painted

 

Cut into strips

 

 

Then connecting two folded pieces creating enough folds to attach the cut pieces. Working with one image at a time and gluing it with Elmer’s.

 

 

Then mounted onto a 24 x 24 gallery wrapped canvas.

 

 

After it was all said and done the title was changed for a third time to “3-D Beastly Beauty.”
