Art Reception

 

I was so excited the morning of my reception, and I think David was to. We were both ready to head out the door by 11:00 AM but we had to wait until 12:30.

 

So we waited

 

After a long hour and a half of waiting we left. Fifteen minutes into the drive we hit heavy beach traffic. We wanted to arrive at the Center by 1:00 in order to set up the food and drinks as the reception started at 2:00. We arrived at 1:30.

 

 

Mark our photographer was on time. Liz a former co-worker of David’s showed up shortly after two with a friend. But for longer than was comfortable for me it was just us.

 

        

 

We were expecting 40 or 50 people.

 

 

The traffic lasted all afternoon, maybe keeping some away. Over all it was a perfect afternoon and we had a really nice turn out.

 

 

 

And then I saw someone who looked exactly like Mrs. Golden from Ojai, CA. And it was Mrs. Golden! I haven’t seen her in about two years. I was jumping with joy by her surprise visit.

 

 

She bought a beautiful painting of “Surfers Point” Ventura, CA titled "Two Palms". It was hard saying bye after such a short time with her.

 

 

Back inside with David and friends and family, one of my girlfriends was busy on her phone. I’m used to this by now, as I understand the draw and curiosity of this technological anchor.

 

A few minutes later she looked at me and said, “I sent you an email.” I smiled and said my phone was off and in my purse. Right because it’s my reception I can’t very well be on the phone reading texts and picking up emails.

 

At the last minute we had one more guest. A patient of David’s whom he had never met in person. They had communicated by email or phone.

 

She took a quick tour and then came back and asked me about a mask called Masquerade. Carefully written lyrics on the mask from a song by Madonna.

 

  

 

 

On our way home from the reception I picked up my emails and read the one from my friend Sandy who was at the reception. She bought three more paintings!

 

 

 

The masks continue to be popular – and I love the freedom experienced when painting them.

 

A big thank you from David and I who shared this milestone with us. And an even bigger thank you to David.

 

 

The reception was on Saturday and on Sunday we decided to call it a jammie day, although we were both dressed. No agenda catching up on posts, texts, emails, mail (yes postal mail) and the newspapers.

 

David brought to my attention a blurb about a grand opening relocation reception for the Redwood City Art Center. And they had artist’s studios for rent. I immediately went on line. There were several available studios so I filled out an application. Giving my cell phone and home phone. That was Sunday night.

 

Monday morning as I was driving to a SCVWS board meeting I could see that someone from the Art Center was calling.

 

As soon as I parked the car I called David, he told me that Tom Chapman from the Redwood City Art Center called. They had one studio left and there were three other artists interested in it.

 

I went in to the board meeting to ask Nancy or President if we could put the exhibits discussion up first, as I had to leave early.

 

Racing home to scoop up David we drove out to Redwood City.

 

The last lonely studio up for rent was being used as storage. It’s an inner studio, which means it has no natural light. They call it the cave. I call it my creative sanctuary #213.

 

We got it! I got it! Its perfect!

We move in August 1^st. Liquid Color art studio will have a new address. I have 24/7 access and the dogs are welcomed.
